The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance of the University of Luxembourg invites applications for

The post-doctoral researcher will be working within the Centre for Research in Economics and Management and is expected to contribute to research in the area of labour economics. We particularly encourage researchers with interests in collective models, (search and) matching models, empirical research using survey or administrative data and in policy evaluation to apply

The main tasks include writing academic papers, participating actively in the life of the department (e.g. seminars, workshops), and interacting with the Ph.D. candidates, especially within the labour group.

A contribution to teaching activities (up to 2 hours a week) is expected.

The post-doctoral researcher will be under the supervision of Prof. Arnaud Dupuy and Prof. Konstantinos Tatsiramos.

The Anna Polke Foundation offers scholarships each year for outstanding research projects on the work of Sigmar Polke. It promotes projects that open up new perspectives on his oeuvre. In 2019, the foundation is offering two research scholarships geared to art historians and academics in related disciplines from Germany and abroad. The scholarship recipients are selected by a commission of experts.


We would like to specifically encourage young academics to apply. The Anna Polke Foundation is interested in a mutual exchange with the scholarship holders. Latter should benefit from a dynamic research environment and be supported by the foundation’s team.

Two scholarships will be awarded, each worth € 5,000. The division of the funding amount can be flexibly set up depending on the qualification as well as the living situation of the applicant and the nature of the project proposal. A redemption of the scholarship as monthly support over a certain period is conceivable as well as the promotion of a research stay or the combination of both. The total funding amount of € 5,000 must not be exceeded. Applicants are therefore requested to submit, in addition to their work plan, a list of the desired use of funds (cost calculation). During the funding period it is expected that applicants who are employed will dedicate themselves substantially to their research project.

The results of the funded research project are to be presented by the scholars within a public presentation – as a lecture, discussion or in a comparable format. Furthermore, a publication of the research findings would be desirable. The Anna Polke Foundation is currently planning its own publication series, in which the results of the funded projects could also be published. However, we ask for your understanding that this will be decided after completion of the scholarship on a case-by-case basis by a commission of expertsand will not be possible for each of the funded research projects.

We are looking for qualified and experienced English as a Foreign Language teachers to teach on summer Pre-sessional courses (English for Academic Purposes).

Applicants should be qualified to degree level and hold a teaching qualification, preferably at Diploma level, and have experience in EAP/ESP teaching.

Experience of working on pre-sessional programmes is a distinct advantage. Applications from UK and overseas-based applicants welcome.

These are full-time, fixed-term positions (maximum 23 hours teaching per week)

Job Description:

  • To teach on the specified Pre-sessional course for a maximum of 23 hours per week following a timetable and guidelines provided by the Course Coordinator.
  • To actively engage with all pre-course preparation and induction activities, including required reading of all course literature and completion of standardisation tasks (3 x email communications).
  • To use the specified pre-sessional course scheme of work to prepare and teach appropriate material for lessons and to have accessible teaching projections for each day.
  • To select / create supplementary materials as appropriate, according to the needs of the students and in accordance with the syllabus, assessment fit, and course aims.
  • To maintain appropriate teaching and admin records for the specified programme: e.g. keep lesson-by-lesson register of class work and accurate daily attendance; and produce mid-course and end-course class reports of a required standard and to a set deadline.
  • To participate in the administration and marking of any coursework and tests, mark student assignments / homework as required and in accordance with the assessment schedule and deadlines, set criteria and marking schemes.
  • To provide and record, on appropriate paperwork and in a timely fashion, detailed formative feedback for both tutor and student reference.
  • To act as personal tutor as required to students on the above programmes: to oversee and advise on students' progress towards assessment criteria.
  • To work closely with other tutors in the team to ensure that students have the best possible learning environment and experience and to collaborate in sharing and pooling of their resources.
  • To participate in weekly briefings and the in-house staff development programme.
  • Maintain course email contact and respond promptly.
  • To undertake the equivalent of 3 hours per week of Social Programme support, teacher development sessions and taught cultural sessions. The hours may be distributed unevenly throughout the summer and will include up to 4 social evenings during the course and 2 Saturday trips. (A fundamental aspect of this role, dates and times are contractual and will be specified. Queries and problems must be referred to the English Language Programmes office). Revised guidelines will be sent out shortly.
  • To complete, on an on-going basis, a tutor feedback form and return prior to departure at the end of the course.
  • To support the Pre-sessional Course Co-ordinator in broader aspects of the teaching programme.
  • To carry out other duties and responsibilities, appropriate to the post, as required by the line manager (Head of Section or nominee).
  • To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate.
  • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, EC directives and the University's Safety, Health and Environment Policies and procedures and to cooperate with the University on any legal duties placed on it as the employer.
  • All staff in the Division will be expected to work flexibly as part of the team to achieve the Division's objectives and to perform other tasks which are not included above but which may be required from time to time to support the work of the Division, but which will be consistent with the role.

Additional Information:

  • Staff will be required to attend a course induction within the first week.
  • Training will also be held in timetabled sessions during the programme.
  • Annual leave cannot be taken during the period of employment. Holiday pay of 17% is included in the salary quoted.
  • Staff will be required to be on the premises a minimum of 15 minutes before the start of the first class of the morning / afternoon and leave no earlier than 15 minutes after the final lesson on Monday to Thursday, i.e. to be contactable in case of staff sickness, informed of class changes, participation in mentor sessions and or/meetings, and 4.30pm on your weekly allocated briefing afternoon. On Fridays, where there are teacher development or marking/standardisation sessions teachers will be required to remain on-site until 3pm, on all other Friday afternoons staff may leave at 1pm (unless allocated for Social Programme or taught cultural sessions).
  • The post holder may be required to teach at different locations around the University campus, and may need to take teaching materials to those locations. Work aids and manual handling training will be provided, if necessary.

Фіналісти Програми складатимуть комп'ютерний тест TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language) та GRE General Test (Graduate Record Examination) у жовтні 2019 року. Фіналісти програми з юридичних спеціальностей складатимуть лише TOEFL.

Офіс Програми імені Фулбрайта відшкодовує учасникам конкурсу витрати на проїзд та перебування у Києві під час співбесіди; оплачує комп'ютерне тестування для фіналістів програми; надає візову підтримку стипендіатам.

Рішення щодо надання гранту ухвалює Наглядова рада науковців імені Фулбрайта (США). Інститут Міжнародної Освіти (IIE) допомагає визначити американські університети у відповідності до академічних інтересів кандидатів. The History Department at NUI Galway invites applications for a PhD in History under the supervision of Dr. Róisín Healy, Senior Lecturer in History and Co-Director of the Centre for the Investigation of Transnational Encounters (CITE).

The CITE is based at the Moore Institute in NUI Galway and supports research on transnational links and historical comparisons between the world’s regions and societies, with a specific emphasis on the modern period. It hosts doctoral students and visiting scholars and organises various academic events.

Its co-director, Dr. Róisín Healy, has developed a strong reputation in this field through publications such as The Shadow of Colonialism on Europe’s Modern Past (2014), Poland in the Irish Nationalist Imagination, 1772-1922: Anti-Colonialism within Europe (2017) and 1916 in Global Context: An Anti-Imperial Moment (2018). The successful candidate will also benefit from the wide range of expertise of colleagues and a strong cohort of doctoral students in the History Department.

Proposals should address one or more of the following research areas: modern German and/or Polish history; transnational and/or comparative approaches to Irish history; colonialism and anti-colonialism within Europe.

Tsinghua University offers summer school scholarship places for 2019 Tsinghua International Summer School -Experiencing China. Applications are invited for prestigious European Research Council (ERC) project funded scholarships from EU and international students with outstanding academic records. The 2 fully funded 4-year PhD positions are part of the European Research Council (ERC) project “Technology Evolution in Regional Economies” (TechEvo). The ERC TechEvo project aims to investigate how specific regional knowledge capabilities influence the evolution of local technology trajectories and thus shape geographies of economic prosperity. Focusing on the development of scientific, technical and commercial knowledge, and set in an evolutionary framework, the doctoral research projects will explore how innovative individuals and entities are embedded in social and cognitive local and non-local networks and provide important insights regarding place-specific characteristics and historical context, and territorial and sectoral policy initiatives in order to determine how regional technology pathways can be actively directed.

The objective of TechEvo is to provide an interactive online mapping and analysis tool that will enable private and public entities, as well as policy makers, to identify current gaps and future opportunities in regional knowledge spaces and networks, and to support their demand for more effective and efficient local knowledge utilization and technology evolution. Overall, TechEvo aims to develop new theoretical understandings that take into consideration previously unexplored factors and relationships in the study of regional innovation systems and technology evolution, and, simultaneously, contribute to theoretical discussions that to date have lacked empirical evidence.

The focus of the 2 anticipated doctoral research projects should fall within the following broadly defined research areas, but is not necessarily limited to topics:

  • Territorial and sectoral innovation and science & technology policy evaluation and analysis
  • The nexus between place-specific characteristics and the evolutionary trajectories of technology and industrial sectors
  • Spatial and sectoral pathways of knowledge production and appropriation with focus on the actual value (economic and societal) of knowledge

Each PhD project can combine a selection of quantitative and qualitative research methods, and candidates are also encouraged to develop their own theories and methodologies to extend the proposed TechEvo framework. The successful applicants will be working directly with TechEvo’s principal investigator, Prof. Dieter F. Kogler and a team of researchers in Ireland as well as a number of international collaborators. Opportunities to undertake short-term visits to partner institutes and research organizations in order to carry out collaborative and in situ data and modelling work will be available. The position will primarily be based at Spatial Dynamics Lab at University College Dublin (IE) as a part of Dr Kogler’s research group, who will also act as supervisor.

Applicants with a background in economic geography, economics, sociology, management studies, statistics, science & technology studies, computer sciences, or related engineering/science disciplines are encouraged to apply.


Applications are invited from enthusiastic and talented candidates with a research Master’s degree in the fields or related disciplines outlined above. We are looking for applicants who have:

  • Prior knowledge of and interest in theories of innovation and technological change.
  • A strong background in quantitative methodologies and analysis techniques.
  • Experience with spatial (econometric) analysis methods and expertise in the analysis of large-scale socio-economic and/or micro-level datasets are considered an asset.
  • Programming skills (R, Java, Python, etc.) and previous training in statistical (SPSS, STATA, SAS), spatial (GIS), and Social Network Analysis (UCI, Pajek, Gephi) software environments are desired, but not essential.
  • Excellent scientific writing and planning skills.
  • Good communication skills and an excellent command of spoken and written English are essential.

Who is it for? This award is open to individual applicants in their early career (five years maximum between the date showing on the certificate and the application deadline). How does it work? The RSA Early Career Grant (EC) is provided to support a discrete piece of regional studies and/or regional science research. As a network of historians and their colleagues from neighbouring disciplines, ENIUGH continues a long tradition of studies on the past’s transnational and global dimensions. To foster and to refresh this tradition ENIUGH awards the Walter Markov Prize – endowed with € 1,500 – for an outstanding master’s or PhD thesis.

The prize honours an outstanding thesis that contributes to the research fields of Walter Markov: the comparative exploration of revolutions; social movements and decolonialization processes in Africa, Asia, and Latin America; historiographical traditions in various national contexts; and academic internationalisation in the course of the 20th century. The successful applicant will receive € 1,000 as support for the publication of his/her master’s or doctoral thesis.

Walter Markov (1909–1993) was a historian whose life and thinking was influenced by the shattered German past. In trying to integrate his experiences of National Socialism, his decade-long imprisonment in a state penitentiary under the Third Reich, and the following Cold War, which he looked at from the Eastern side, his works sought to integrate the intellectual potentials of the historical thinking of Karl Marx and impulses from French social history around the Annales school.

Markov’s way of addressing history can be best described as a “history from below”. Examining revolutions and revolutionary moments in history, he became one of the most important German historians working on the French Revolution. In continuing the Leipzig tradition in world and global history, initiated by Karl Lamprecht and the Institute for Cultural and Universal History, Markov became the director of this institute in 1949 and tried to bring all area studies at his university under one roof for comparative studies. Pursuing international cooperation with scholars on the other side of the iron curtain – especially with scholars from Latin America, Africa (where he was the first German guest professor), and Asia – he hoped to stand against any withdrawal of his university from border-crossing dialogue and mutual learning.

Papers that are submitted for the Walter Markov Prize are expected to take a global perspective on its subject, either by addressing it from a comparative point of view by examining processes of cultural transfers, or by seeking to understand the entanglements of various spatial frameworks.

The jury will consider all manuscripts (in German, English, or French) that had been handed in for examination not earlier than January 2016.

An international committee nominated by the European Network in Universal and Global History will select the awardee among the submitting candidates.

The WTO has issued a call for young economists to submit papers for the 2019 WTO Essay Award. The award aims to promote high-quality research on trade policy and international trade co-operation and to reinforce the relationship between the WTO and the academic community. Essays must be submitted by 31 May 2019.


The annual WTO Essay Award provides a prize of CHF 5,000 to the author(s) of the winning essay. In the case of a co-authored paper, the prize will be equally divided among the authors. The winning paper will be officially announced at the annual meeting of the European Trade Study Group (ETSG), which is the largest conference specializing in international trade. The award ceremony will take place in September 2019 in Bern, Switzerland. The winning author will receive funding to attend the meeting.


An Academic Selection Panel is responsible for the selection of the winning paper. The panel comprises:

  • Professor Alberto Trejos (INCAE Business School).

The paper must address issues related to trade policy and international trade co-operation. The author(s) of the paper must possess or be engaged in the completion of a PhD degree and, if over 30 years of age, be no more than two years past a PhD defense. In the case of co-authored papers, this requirement shall apply to all authors. In addition, to be considered for the award, essays cannot exceed 15,000 words.

Every two years the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation awards the Willy Brandt Prize for Contemporary History.

Outstanding academic papers, dissertations or habilitations on the work and legacy of Willy Brandt or on a specific chapter of contemporary history linked to Brandt are taken into consideration. The work shall not be older than two years but can already be published. Dissertations and habilitations must have been accepted by the respective faculty at the time of submission. The work has to be written in German or English.

The foundation will cover the printing costs of the winning publication to a reasonable extent. Additionally the publication within the «Willy-Brandt-Studies» can be offered to the awardee.

About the Program

The Professional Fellows Program (PFP) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. For Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, and Ukraine PFP has legislative focus and is administered by American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS.

The Professional Fellows Program affords promising young professionals the opportunity to gain practical experience in, and exposure to, United States government institutions and non-profits. The fellows will be part of the larger cohort of the Professional Fellows Program, joining fellows from Asian countries. The knowledge and interest of these young Eurasian professionals in American political processes will be expanded through short-term fellowships in state legislatures and city halls across the United States, as well as on Capitol Hill and in non-profit organizations that address policy issues.

Program Goals:

  • Strengthen understanding of the U.S. legislative process;
  • Enhance appreciation of the role civil society plays in shaping public policy and holding the government accountable;
  • Create partnerships between institutions in the U.S. and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine; and
  • Establish a common language to develop practical solutions for shared problems and concerns.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for PFP, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey or Ukraine and currently reside in your country of citizenship. Applicants living outside of their country of citizenship or on a long term program outside of their country of citizenship will not be considered eligible to apply.
  • Be 25 to 35 years of age at the time of application;
  • Be a college graduate (equivalent of a Bachelor's degree or higher);
  • Be proficient in English. If you are selected as a semi-finalist we will give you an institutional TOEFL exam, unless you have a valid TOEFL score over 500 (paper test) or over 60 (iBT test) or its equivalent (for example, valid IELTS band 6 or higher);
  • Have relevant experience in and commitment to a career in the public sector and/or nonprofit sector (e.g., legislative, executive, and NGOs that address policy issues); and
  • Have demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills (you can elaborate on your leadership and collaborative activities in essays in the end of application, and submit/upload any certificates/diplomas/materials that can prove your leadership skills).

Individuals in the following circumstances are NOT eligible to apply to participate as Fellows in the Professional Fellows Program:

Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange is pleased to announce new Programme for incoming researchers: The Ulam Programme. The Programme will help foreign researchers to develop their career by intensifying international mobility as well as will give them an opportunity to establish scientific cooperation with excellent host institutions in Poland. It allows both recognised and promising scientists with at least the doctoral degree, to visit Poland in order to participate in their scientific activities, primarily research projects and didactics.

Why Ulam Programme?

  • vibrant and fast developing research environment fitting the needs of young post-docs,
  • one of the top 10 countries qualified as “rising stars in science” by Nature magazine (2016),
  • 82 Polish universities and research institutions awarded by HR Excellence in Research by the European Commission,

The Programme provides financing for a scholarship that covers the Beneficiary’s living costs in an amount of approx. 2400 EUR a month, along with a mobility allowance. The scholarship amount may be increased if a scientist is accompanied by his or her spouse or minor children and in the case of a scientist with officially determined disability – by a personal assistant.

Who is entitled to file an application?

The applicant is an individual scientist who:

  • holds at least a doctoral degree awarded in a country other than Poland,
  • does not hold Polish citizenship, except for persons who are Polish citizens and whose full cycle of doctoral studies has been financed by the Polish government,
  • is employed at a foreign HEI/research centre or has just defended his/her PhD dissertation or has just completed his/her previous postdoctoral fellowship.

What is the Programme’s schedule?

The call for proposals is open from 22nd January to 23rd April 2019. Visits under the Programme can last from 6 to 24 months within the period from 1st October 2019 to 31st May 2020.

What activities are covered by the Programme?

  • completing the first or subsequent postdoctoral fellowship(s),
  • conducting scientific research, including in cooperation with Polish scientists or research teams,
  • obtaining materials for research or a scientific publication,

Background The Engineering for Development (E4D) Continuing Education Scholarship Programme awards scholarships to candidates from low-income countries to attend continuing education programmes at ETH Zurich. The goal of the programme is to enhance the knowledge and skills of future leaders with the perspective of contributing to capacity development and poverty reduction in their home countries. The E4D programme is funded through the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development. The E4D Continuing Education Scholarship Programme covers ETH Master of Advanced Studies (MAS), Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) and Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) programmes.

The FRQNT's (Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies) international internship aims to foster international mobility of students whose research activities are part of the scientific program of a strategic cluster funded by the FRQNT.

The internship is a supplementary tool available to a strategic cluster to strengthen its position at the international level through research projects and partnerships that have already been established or which are under development.


The international internship is intended for Master's or doctoral students enrolled full-time in a Quebec university or in an university outside Québec who meets the requirements of their program.

The proposed research outlined in the application as part of the internship must be part of the scientific program of the strategic cluster. In a first step, the strategic cluster recommends a candidate and then the candidate can apply for the scholarship.


All of the strategic clusters supported by the FRQNT may submit an application to this program.

The applicant proposed by the strategic cluster must meet all of the eligibility requirements listed here after.


For full-time students enrolled in a Québec university

The applicant must have Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status in Canada, or foreign student status with a valid study permit to study in Quebec

For foreign students enrolled in an university outside Québec

The applicant must have the valid study permits or visa for the entire duration of the internship;

The applicant can't be enrolled in a co-degree from more than one institution including a Québec university. For the students enrolled in a co-degree see the rules of the Frontenac program.

Location of the internship

The internship must take place outside Quebec for students enrolled in a Quebec university or a College technology transfer center (CCTT) in Quebec.

Duration of the internship

The internship must be of a minimum duration of 2 months and a maximum of 6 months.

Start date of the internship

The internship must start no later than September 30th, 2019.


Students who are jointly supervised by a researcher in a foreign university (co-degree) are not eligible to apply for an international internship scholarship to visit one of their home universities


Candidates interested within this program must file their application within their strategic cluster (see list on FRQNT's Web Site) Validate the list of documents required for this application with the specific strategic cluster.

The strategic clusters which recommend a candidate must fill the specific form available on FRQNT's Web site as well as transmit it electronically. The form includes the complete addresses of the student, the academic supervisor, and the internship supervisor. A brief description of the nature of the internship is also required.

The strategic clusters must also submit the selection committee report that states the results for each of the three criteria in effect, the assessment process and the names of the committee members. This report should briefly explain the gender challenge(s) encountered in the selection of recommended candidates and/or candidates.

The strategic clusters must also send in the electronic form, a letter signed by the supervisor of the student specifying the start and end dates of the internship.

Any internship application must be filed by the strategic cluster and approved by the FRQNT before the leaving of the trainee.

Application deadlines

Each strategic cluster may submit applications at all time until March 1, 2019.

Limited number of applications

Each strategic cluster may generally submit up to two applications until the contest deadline. This limit can be re-examined and increased at all time until the contest deadline.

Each strategic cluster can propose the application of no more than two foreign students enrolled outside Québec so they can pursue their internship within the strategic cluster.

The same rules for evaluating candidates, duration of the course and the value of scholarship apply to application. The application of a foreign student enrolled outside Québec doesn't modify the total limit of two candidates per cluster.


The scholarship for internship is of a maximum value of $15,000. However, the FRQNT will allow no more than the equivalent of $2,500/month in living expenses.



Applications are evaluated by the strategic clusters according to the following criteria:

The academic excellence and research aptitude of the candidate - 50 points.

The correspondence of the internship with the scientific program of the cluster's - 25 points

The insertion of the internship in international action of the strategic cluster - 25 points.

The process and evaluation criteria are the sole responsibility of the FRQNT.


Candidates are selected by the strategic clusters which recommend them to the FRQNT. It is the FRQNT that makes the final decision on the grants to be awarded under the international internship program. The allocation of internships by the FRQNT is made according to the order of receipt of applications and the funds available for this program.

The FRQNT reserves itself the right to refuse any application that does not meet eligibility requirements or for which the selection committee report is not sufficiently detailed.


The Strategic cluster must be able to provide to the FRQNT, if required, supporting documents related to the internship expenses (ex.: airfare, room rental agreement, etc.).


A report detailing the activities carried out during the internship must be sent to the FRQNT's program administrator no later than one month after the end of the internship. This report is done in an open format of about one page and must present the following: 1) a presentation of the training site; 2) a description of (or) project to which the trainee worked and contribution; 3) a general assessment of the course and acquired research skills; 4) developed collaborations and potential impact for the strategic cluster.

The clusters, whose student will be in default of having submitted the internship report according to the rules, cannot file new applications to the international internship program as long as the situation is not rectified.


Any individual or institution that receives funding must demonstrate the highest standards of research ethics and scientific integrity. You must refer to the Common General Rules for further details.


At no time may applicants or their institutional authorities make contact with evaluation committee members, unless such contact is specified as part of the evaluation process. Similarly, evaluation committee members must not make contact with applicants, unless such contact is specifically indicated in the evaluation process. The identities of evaluation committee members are kept confidential to avoid any attempt at collusion. The Fonds reserve the right to withdraw an application from competition if there is any inappropriate intervention, lobby, undue influence or collusion during the evaluation process, as stipulated in the Policy for the Responsible Conduct of Research.


The Fonds make all reasonable efforts to ensure optimal service. However, they cannot be held liable for any direct or indirect damage resulting from their handling of applications for funding. Furthermore, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Fonds are not liable for any direct or indirect damage resulting from the disclosure of personal or confidential information that was not authorized by the Fonds.


The Fonds presume the good faith of the declaration provided in funding applications or in any other document submitted at any time during the funding cycle, from the initial funding application to the final report. Applicants and funding holder must be transparent and provide accurate and precise information. They must be conscientious about advising the Fonds of any changes in their situation, where applicable. Such qualities are essential to maintaining the trust of the Fonds in its funding holders.

Under the Act Respecting the Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie (CQLR, c. M-, any individual who submits an application containing false or misleading information to obtain or procure financial support is committing an offence, is liable to a fine and could be barred from receiving financial support for a period of up to five years. Where a legal person commits such an offence, every director or representative of that legal person who was aware of the offence may be liable to a fine. Furthermore, such a declaration constitutes a breach of responsible research conduct, as set forth in the Fonds de recherche du Québec Policy for the Responsible Conduct of Research, and may be subject to sanctions in accordance with this policy.

The Fonds reserve the right to take immediate measures to stop the use of public funds obtained through false or misleading information, and to take legal action to recover fraudulently obtained funds and claim compensation for damages caused where appropriate.

«DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships» is a programme implemented by the 'German Aerospace Center' (DLR) and the 'German Academic Exchange Service' (DAAD). The fellowships can be pursued only at DLR institute. DLR is Germany´s national research center for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in Aeronautics, Space, Transportation and Energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. As Germany´s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility for the forward planning and the implementation of the German space program by the German federal government as well as for the international representation of German interests. Approximately 8,300 people plus ca. 400 international visiting scientists are employed in DLR´s 40 institutes and facilities at 20 locations in Germany.

Ilia State University announces a call for applications for one Ph.D. student position in the doctoral program within the partnership between Georg-August-University of Göttingen and Ilia State University. The discipline is Religious and Cultural Studies. The joint doctoral program gives Ph.D. students from various scientific fields the opportunity to pursue their doctoral projects within a structured Cotutelle-based framework and obtain a Ph.D. degree by each of the two universities. Funding granted by the German VolkswagenStiftung and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia allows the allocation of a full scholarship to the Ph.D. student.

Atlas Corps is an overseas fellowship for the world’s top social change leaders. Our mission is to address critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and promoting innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled nonprofit professionals. The Atlas Corps Fellowship typically lasts 12 to 18 months. Fellows serve full-time at Host Organizations to develop leadership skills and learn effective practices through the Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab professional development series and networking opportunities with other Fellows. This prestigious fellowship includes health insurance, enrollment in Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab, flight and visa costs, and a living stipend to cover basic expenses (food, local transportation, and shared housing).

1. Online Application

Part 1: You will need to create a login and you can save your responses so you can return to the application at any time. In Part 1 of the application (known as the “short form”), you provide contact information and complete the initial eligibility test, and if you pass the eligibility test, you’ll complete additional background questions and one short essay. NOTE: In order to sponsor candidates to come to the United States for one year as a Fellow, we require detailed information about each applicant. Please answer each question honestly and thoroughly. If you are found to be dishonest in the application, you will NOT be accepted as a Fellow and you will be sent home if you have been accepted.

Part 2 (by invitation only): Atlas Corps will review Part 1 applications and invite eligible candidates to complete Part 2 of the application (known as the “long form”), which includes additional questions about your skills and interests and several short essay questions. You will also be required to submit contact information for at least two references who know you in a professional capacity and will write a letter of recommendation about your skills and experiences as well as your potential for success as an Atlas Corps Fellow. You will need to send your requests for letter of recommendation directly through the application system. Your recommenders will receive an email that asks for a recommendation. 2. Atlas Corps Review Process (by invitation only): Atlas Corps will review Part 2 applications and select top candidates to interview via Skype with the Atlas Corps Selection Board, including Atlas Corps staff and nonprofit sector, government, and business leaders from multiple countries.

3. Host Organization Review Process (by invitation only): Candidates who pass the Atlas Corps interview stage will be designated as Semi-Finalists, which means they are eligible to be reviewed by potential Host Organizations for placements based on their interests and skillset and the organization’s needs.

4. Host Organization Interview Process (by invitation only): Host Organizations invite Semi-Finalists that best match their positions to conduct Skype video interviews with them, moving on to the Finalist stage.

5. Selection and Visa Process: Host Organizations will make their final recommendations to Atlas Corps, and Atlas Corps will notify the selected candidates. After being selected, Fellows will go to the U.S. Embassy in their respective countries to apply for a J-1 visa. Atlas Corps will provide support in obtaining this visa. Semi-Finalists who are not selected by a Host Organization will be notified and may be given the option to keep their application on file for consideration for the next class of the Fellowship, moving back to the Step 3, the Host Organization Review Process.


Atlas Corps receives hundreds of applications each month. Each of the steps listed above may take approximately 1-3 months. Most applications are reviewed within two major vetting periods each year. The vetting process may take several months to complete. You may apply at any time. We recommend submitting your application as soon as possible to initiate the review process. Please do not wait for any deadlines. See below for our approximate calendar, which is subject to change.

Tips: We encourage you to spend some time on your application, including having it be reviewed by a peer. Please check your email frequently for updates. Ikerbasque - the Basque Foundation for Science, has launched a new call offering 20 positions for postdoctoral researchers. These positions are financed by the Basque Government, the European Commission and the host institution where the researcher will develop his/her research: therefore the acceptance letter of the host institution is mandatory.

The Master’s course in “Global Studies – A European Perspective” trains students to look at processes of globalisation in different academic ways. It combines approaches from Global History and International Studies. Cultural Studies, Area Studies, Social Sciences and other disciplines contribute to a wide-ranging academic programme.

The two-year Master’s course in “Global Studies – A European Perspective” is offered by six European universities, namely: Ghent University (Belgium), Leipzig University (Germany), London School of Economics and Political Science (UK), University of Roskilde (Denmark), University of Vienna (Austria) and University of Wroclaw (Poland) and nine further partner universities: Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), Dalhousie University (Canada), Fudan University (China), Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), Macquarie University (Australia), Otago University (New Zealand), University of California at Santa Barbara (USA), University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) and the University of Yaoundé I (Cameroon).

Students have the chance to study for one year at one of the European partner institutions, and for the second year at a different European university. Additionally there is the opportunity to spend one semester at one of the further non-European partner universities.

The Master in ‘Global Studies’ aims at excellent students with a first degree in social sciences and humanities and with an interest in issues of globalisation. The minimum application requirements are: a BA degree (to be completed by August 2019) or a recognised equivalent from an accredited institution and excellent written and oral command of English and basic knowledge of a further foreign language.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates to join us on a project beginning in 2019 on the molecular mechanisms of sensory neurogenesis. We study in particular the nociceptors, the specialized peripheral neurons that detect painful stimuli.

We aim to understand the role and mechanism of action of the Prdm12 gene. Prdm12 encodes an evolutionarily conserved epigenetic regulator of gene expression that has been found mutated in patients that suffer from a rare disease, Congenital Insensitivity to Pain, a dangerous condition that renders individuals completely unable to feel pain since their birth (Chen et al., Nat. Genet., 2015). To understand the molecular mechanisms that cause the painlessness, we are using the frog embryo and have generated Prdm12 null and conditional knock-out mouse models. We expect that the results of our work using these experimental systems as well as the identification of Prdm12 direct targets and interacting partners will help in the development of new strategies for treating pain.

The positions are funded by the Walloon government within the frame of the “Win2wal” program. They are open from 2 to 4 years and starting dates are flexible. The research will be performed in the laboratory of Developmental Genetics (Dr. Eric Bellefroid, http://gendev.ulb.ac.be/bellefroidlab/) that is part of the University of Brussels (ULB) Neuroscience Institute (UNI), the ULB Structural Biology and Biophysic laboratory (Dr. Abel Garcia-Pino, https://www.cm2ulb.be/) and the laboratory of Neuroscience (Dr. Laurence Ris, https://sharepoint1.umons.ac.be/FR/universite/facultes/fmp/services/neurosci/Pages/Equipe.aspx) at the University of Mons.

As populist parties emerge across Europe, increasing numbers of politicians and intellectuals are urgently calling for citizenship education to strengthen the public's democratic mind-set. However, democracy and education share a more troubled history than these recent calls might suggest. The question of what citizenship education means and how it should be applied has changed significantly over time and has been at the centre of controversial debates throughout the twentieth century. Different political and professional groups espoused competing concepts of (liberal, socialist and even communist) 'democratic' citizenship and education. These factions also collided with groups aspiring to various forms of 'authoritarianism'. Moreover, all varieties of 'democratic' citizenship education face a fundamental practical dilemma: Modern democracies need at least a loose set of democratic values and attitudes, but they cannot simply decree what these principles are without violating the democratic premise of freedom. In educational institutions, changing notions of citizenship and democracy also clash with the various forms of power that these organizations exercise over (young) people.

This workshop will trace the efforts undertaken to create, maintain and reform democracy through citizenship education during Europe's tempestuous twentieth century. Our aim is to examine concepts and practices of 'democratic' citizenship education, and how these notions and procedures conflicted and/or hybridized with nationalist, authoritarian and religious pedagogies. The workshop will study these issues on a European scale, mapping trajectories of 'democratic' citizenship education in different social, cultural and national contexts from a comparative and transnational perspective (and beyond a Western European bias). Reflecting on education as one of the principal instruments of social and political reform, we aim to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the contested histories of democracy in Europe's twentieth century.

We encourage contributions that might focus on:

  • concepts of 'democratic' citizenship education and their effects on educational institutions, curricula, youth organizations and wider reform agendas;
  • practices of 'democratic' citizenship education in (model) schools and youth institutions, and the associated dilemmas and contradictions;
  • the role of human sciences such as philosophy, psychology and sociology in shaping, legitimizing and questioning notions and practices of citizenship, democracy and education.

Papers could also address specific periods in European history by exploring one or more of the following questions:

  • How were controversies surrounding democratic citizenship in education connected to the disputes about future political order in interwar Europe? How did these conflicts reflect both democracy's potential and its increasing fragility after the Great War?
  • How did education contribute to changing definitions of democratic citizenship after 1945 against the background of fascism, a devastating world war, new psychological research and the dawning age of superpower conflict? (Here, we especially encourage contributions that go beyond the well-researched case of West German re-education.)
  • What role did education play in the controversies surrounding democracy and citizenship between the 1960s and 1980s? How did the appearance of new social movements, the advent of mass consumption, and the emerging 'neo-liberal' cultures of self-improvement (and associated ideas of social order) feed into these disputes across Europe?

The workshop will take place at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (in the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies, Halle) on 7-9 November 2019. To exist in a democracy means to be counted, and ideally to feel as if what one does truly counts. At this summer school, we will discuss how the demography of a polity is presumed to impact its form of government. Thus, the summer school will address a few central questions:

  • Are there distinctive concerns associated with being over- versus underpopulated?
  • How and why does migration – both outward and inward – create anxiety that can throw the basis of democratic pluralism into question?
  • What are the various forms of “homogeneity” that different political ideologies seek to achieve or correct for? To what extent does a “longing for homogeneity” underpin the current rise of neo-authoritarian populism?
  • When and how is “the fear of small numbers” instrumentalized?
  • How can political systems – and democracy in particular – expand or limit the participation of certain groups in policymaking?

We propose to discuss some classic texts and chart a course through various sub-themes ranging from colonialism to “population politics” to Foucauldian “governmentality and biopolitics” to environmentalism, and aim to deal with different genres and disciplinary approaches such as political and social theory, history, film, fiction, etc.

The summer school offers the opportunity to work on these themes with leading scholars in the field, who include Holly Case, Craig Calhoun, Dilip Gaonkar, Ivan Krastev, Jan-Werner Müller, and Shalini Randeria. Besides lectures, discussions, and reading sessions, it also offers the possibility to pursue an optional writing component under the close supervision of long-time magazine editor John Palattella.



It is will be held at Burg Feistritz, a picturesque castle embedded in the rolling hills of Lower Austria. The beauty and serenity of the historic scenery and the abundance of comfortable guest rooms create a perfect environment for the exchange of ideas, and offers many beautiful and distinctive spaces to engage, discuss, and reflect.
